Evolution Gaming Shuts Down Netent Live Studios
The employees of NetEnt AB are facing a period of uncertainty as the renowned iGaming software developer recently announced plans for job cuts following its acquisition. Evolution Gaming, the new owner, is considering a major restructure.
According to recent reports from the Times of Malta, NetEnt was acquired by Evolution for $2.12 billion. As one of its first decisions, Evolution has decided to close down NetEnt’s live casino studios in Qormi. This puts the employees at risk of losing their jobs and the process of selecting names for layoffs has begun.
A Short-Lived Era
With over 1,000 employees worldwide, NetEnt AB had only expanded its live dealer casino portfolio three months ago. However, experts had predicted this outcome as Evolution Gaming currently operates nine live casinos and blackjack rooms in the neighboring region.
The Response from Authorities
The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority approved the merger between Evolution and NetEnt in September. The Ministry for the Economy, Investments, and Small Businesses is now discussing potential replacement positions for those impacted by the restructure.
The authorities in Malta have also launched a helpline urging those at risk of losing their jobs to register on JobsPlus training and employment platform. According to an official statement from the Ministry, “While acknowledging Evolution Gaming’s commitment to the local economy, discussions are currently underway to facilitate a smooth transition for employees affected by the restructuring. Additional measures are being taken through the JobsPlus platform to provide personalized recommendations and job matching services for those involved.”
